How do I submit my documentary film for the Festival?

We welcome film submissions. There is no fee for sending your film for consideration. All online links or DVDs (NTSC or Blu-Ray) must be received by October 15th for the following year's Festival (now 2019). Please complete our online Submissions form. You can mail Blue Rays or DVDs to: Tracy Harrison, Salt Spring Film Festival Society, PO Box 741, Ganges, Salt Spring Island, BC, V8K 2W3, Canada.

We also welcome suggestions from our community. If there's a film you've seen or heard about, and would like us to consider it for our program, Please complete our online Submissions form. by October 15th.

When does the Festival take place?

The Salt Spring Film Festival takes place on the first weekend in March. Our 19th Annual Film Festival is March 2nd - 4th 2018. We begin with the Friday Night Opening Gala (doors at 5:30pm and film starts at 7:00pm). We continue the Festival with two full screening days on Saturday and Sunday (10:00am-6:00pm each day - Doors open both days at 9 am).

Where is the Festival held?

The Festival takes place at Gulf Islands Secondary School (GISS), 112 Rainbow Road, Salt Spring Island, BC, V8K 2K3.

When do you release your program?

The Festival guide will be released online and in print versions mid February. Watch for details on our website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, Instagram and on the Salt Spring Exchange.

Do you show only documentaries?

At the Festival weekend we show a variety of documentaries. You'll see films that bring the issues of our time to life. Films about food, art and music from India to our own back yard; social justice issues from Alberta to Iran; and inspiring films about the environment and human rights.

During the year we also bring you the "Best of the Fest International Film Series". These are the very best independent films from festivals around the world. The films shown are usually feature films and on occasion an award-winning documentary.

How and when do I buy tickets?

Weekend passes and day passes are required for access to the Festival. For more information, see our Box office page.

When do the films start during the weekend?

Saturday and Sunday films continue throughout the day beginning at 10am. Please remember to arrive in plenty of time for the films that you wish to see in order to get a seat. Our programme of films will be finalized shortly.

What happens at the Friday Night Opening Gala?

Doors open for the Gala at 5:30 pm and delicious appies and desserts will be available. Opening ceremonies starts at 7:00pm. Tickets for the gala are $15, available at the door. Or, if you purchase a weekend pass in advance, the Friday night gala is included. Advance weekend passes can be purchased at the ArtSpring Box Office or on their website www.artspring.ca

How can I volunteer at the Festival?

During the Festival weekend we rely on over 100 volunteers in a variety of roles, including reception and hospitality desk, set-up and take-down, decor and signage, projectionist, hall monitor, food service and social justice bazaar. If you'd like to volunteer for any of these positions please complete the Volunteer application form.

How can I have my business highlighted at the Festival?

There are various sponsorship packages available, offering your business smart and cost effective exposure to our audience. Find out more about becoming a Business sponsor. Be sure to sign up before February 5, 2018 so your business gets into our festival program (in addition to other online and print options).

How can I donate to the Salt Spring Film Festival?
