The Singing City vividly conveys the efforts of literally a thousand people gathered together in a monumental act of collective creation. It follows the creation of Clixto Bieito's 2010 post-apocalyptic production of Wagner's Parsifal for the Stuttgart Opera — complete with gas masks, scuba gear, nudity and shrunken baby-doll heads worn as headdresses. The director clashes with the cast, the make-up artists weave wigs on prop corpses that the audience will barely see and the orchestra has to contend with prop blood spilling into the orchestra pit from urine bags tied to corpses.
