Tale Kalna is nothing short of a Latvian legend. After her father was imprisoned, tortured and sent to Siberia simply because he owned a farm, it became her dream to own land again. Tale’s daughter affectionately chronicles over 60 years of Latvian history through the accomplishments of her mother as she raised two daughters, brought opera to the countryside and advocated for better rural transit. This was a golden time for Tale – a passionate and patriotic woman who eventually owned one of the first independent farms in the Republic of Latvia.
